If you were a victim of the Marriott data hack, you may be worried about the uncertainties surrounding the event.
It has to be remembered that this was a huge, huge breach that affected some 500 million customers worldwide. Data may have been vulnerable and exposed for four years. Data breached included passport information, which is incredibly serious. Partial payment card information is also understood to have been exposed for some.
With the revelations that the company may never know who was behind the devastating data breach, what can the victims do to feel safe? All we can do as data breach lawyers is help you claim compensation as a victim of the breach.
The actors behind the Marriott data hack may never be known. This has been accepted by the CEO of the company amidst suspicions from the US government that China may have been involved.
In a statement, CEO Arne Sorenson had previously said:
“We will never know who the actor was. We don’t have the expertise and I don’t think we have the tools to figure that out. There have obviously been people externally who have speculated and what information they are relying on I don’t know and we’re not necessarily convinced that anyone knows exactly what happened.”
This may be of little comfort to the victims whose personal and sensitive data may have been exposed for years. It may not have helped that it took so long for the breach to be revealed, and for customers to find out about the incident.
Either way, there’s still avenues for justice for anyone who has been affected by the breach.
Victims of the Marriott data hack may not feel any comfort in never knowing just who has seen any of their information that has been exposed.
However, victims can be entitled to make a claim for data breach compensation. If you’re a resident of England or Wales, we may be able to offer you a No Win, No Fee agreement. Depending on what data of yours has been exposed, and the issues this has caused for you, we may be able to assist with a legal case.
