Last week, the Your Lawyers Virgin Media Data Breach Group Action was launched. The action is in support of the 900,000 people who have suffered from the breach.
The Group Action claim could lead to a total pay-out of to £4.5 billion, with each individual potentially receiving up to £5,000.00, based on early estimations.
If you have been contacted by Virgin Media to inform you of your involvement in the data breach, you could be eligible to claim. To be a part of the Group Action Claim, all you need to do is fill out a few basic questions here and our team will do the rest.
Details of the Virgin Media Data Breach
Between April 2019 and February 2020, Virgin Media left over 900,000 people’s personal data available online. The data in the breach included names, email addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth and, in some cases, details that could link customers to pornography and explicit websites.
Virgin Media has put the breach down to an employee error resulting in an ‘incorrectly configured’ database. The breach was discovered by security researcher TurgenSec who informed Virgin Media of the problem earlier this year.
By this point, the data had already been left exposed for a period of 10 months.
Further investigations into the exposed database revealed that the sensitive information had been accessed by an unknown third party at least once as well. Virgin Media has claimed that there is no evidence to suggest that the information has been misused, but this does not mean that the information exposed is safe.
About the Group Action Claim
The Your Lawyers Virgin Media Data Breach Group Action has been launched, and anyone affected by the event can be eligible to join the action.
Since news of our launch hit the mainstream media, we have been inundated with new sign-ups as we commit ourselves to fighting for justice for anyone affected by the breach.
Our launch of the Group Action Claim means that Virgin Media has just 4 weeks to agree to resolve cases. An agreement could be by way of an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). If an agreement is not reached, at the end of this time frame, Your Lawyers can proceed with a formal Group Litigation Order (GLO).
It is expected that Virgin Media will not agree to an ADR and that a GLO will proceed through the courts so Your Lawyers can help give the victims of the breach the justice that they deserve.
